So I kind of gave up the blogging thing a while back. If there is anyone out there that ever checks my blog this is a post to let people know that I started making appliques and am posting some applique shirts on etsy. I am also going to be selling shirts at our(me and Martha Lynn) Gift Shop inside her salon ML Crawfords. I just wanted to say how thankful I am for my parents and matthews parents. They did so many things to help make this party successful. Yesterday we had Brooks and Cash's birthday party at a playground that has this great pavilion to eat at. I had been hoping and praying for nice warm weather and no rain. We did get one out of two. No rain. It was pretty chilly though. Luckily parents still brought their children out to play and celebrate in the 47 degree windy morning. Everyone was real sweet to tell me not to worry about the cold that the kids did not care or even notice how cold it was. Brooks was a little overwhelmed at first but ended up having a great time. Cash was pretty much wrapped up and being held most of the time with no clue that this celebration did include him. Next year I am sure he will be more into his birthday party. They are 3 and 1 now and I am so thankful for them and can't believe how fun and hard it is to raise to awesome boys.

Good times at the Frist Center

Last week the Frist Center had a day that it was free to get in. Well we are always happy to attend free events. We went with our friends Danielle and Ava. They had so much fun in the kids art area. Then we ate lunch and then they ran around and played in the court yard. Here they are enjoying their suckers by the fountain. Brooks did eventually fall over into this fountain which is a little deeper than you might think. He rode home just in a dry diaper.

Both Brooks and Cash are asleep right now!!!!!! I am so excited to come and look at blogs for a few minutes. This has only happened a couple of times since Cash has been born and I get so excited that I hardly know what to do first. It is usually stuff that is not fun. We get the best smiles from Brooks when he is not doing what we are asking him to do. That seems to be what makes him happiest right now.
I have missed posting and looking at everyone's blogs. Our computer has had it so we should have a new one in a couple of days whick will make using the computer a much faster process than what it has been. I have really just quit using it bc it is so slow and freezes up all the time. Seeing how life is kind of busy right now I am really excited about having a new fast computer.

I have to share my birth story bc it was so crazy and I am still in shock. I know it is long but it was pretty exciting.
Saturday night April 12, 2008
6:30 pm - Arrived at Reid and Franklin's house for dinner/Wii Olympic Party
We had so much fun. We had a great dinner and really enjoyed boxing and watching everyone else box. (I lost my boxing match to Pat Pickens but I think all the bouncing around might had put me right over the edge).
8:45 pm - said our good-byes bc we needed to take Brooks home and get him to bed. On they way out I felt a little funny and I told Keeley and Sara that this might be the night.
9:00 pm - We were in the car and I asked Matthew to go ahead and stop to get gas bc we were on empty.
9-9:15 - Thought I had a contraction but thinking maybe I am just sick at my stomach. Matthew wanted to start calling our family. I wanted to stay calm and wait to make sure this was not a false alarm. He told me that I was already five days late, did I really think this was a false alarm?
I called Marilyn, Matthew's aunt, to give her a heads up that this might be it bc she was going to keep Brooks for us. She did not answer. Then I had another contraction. Matthew said, "Heather those were 4 minutes apart".
9:20 pm - Arrive at our home. Matthew says okay so why don't I go ahead and call my mom. I strongly agree at this point that we need to get somebody here to watch Brooks and we need to get to the hospital. He ended up getting in touch with Martha Lynn and Zach. They said they could come right over. While we are waiting I am walking around with Brooks talking to me and I am trying to make a few phone calls to notify friends and family for prayers. Brooks is feeling some commotion going on as my contractions are strong and only 3 minutes apart. Then as Matthew is getting our stuff in the car Brooks slams into him and gets knocked back pretty hard. So now I am trying to be calm bc he is hysterical. I get Brooks in bed and am comforting him and we are saying good-night. Matthew and I are about to walk out and Brooks says time to pray. So sweet. So Matthew said a much needed prayer for us right before leaving. ML and Z arrive.
9:52-10:00 pm Home to hospital. Ran some red lights and I screamed out for the Lord to slow this process down. To be honest I screamed out a few other things too but it was mostly oh dear Lord HELP!!!!!!! My contractions are now not even 1 minute apart.
10:00- 10:14 pm- I go as fast as I can into the doors of Baptist Hospital. I tell the lady at the desk that I am about to have this baby. My contractions are not even one minute apart and I was already dilated to five at the Dr.'s office the day before. I sign two papers (I had already pre-registered, thank goodness). She walks, yes walks to get a wheelchair. This lady is clearly missing the urgency of this situation. She strolls back and says somebody has taken my wheelchair. She said can you walk? Matthew is walking up and he says yes she can walk as I am doubling over in pain on the desk. Then he said well maybe not. Then the lady walks off and about that time my contraction passed and I have about 30 seconds maybe to try and get to where I need to go and the lady is out of sight. She walks back around the corner with a wheel chair and maybe with all my moaning she realizes this is serious so she ran me down the hall to Triage where a nurse tells me she needs a urine sample. What???????? Seriously????????????? This is the last thing they need right now if you ask me. I just needed to be sitting up on a bed having this baby. I walk in the bathroom, as I am trying to cooperate and then my water busted everywhere.
The nurse helps me get everything off and into my gown. Then pushes me into a delivery room. I get up on the table and say so do I get an epidural, which of course they laugh bc the baby is crowning already. I knew I was not getting one when I asked but I was desperatly hoping for some relief from the pain. They are trying to get the shock doc into deliver me. This is the name for the Dr. that they keep on at the hospital 24/7 for emergencies like this one. There are 5 nurses all around me trying to get me to breathe and not push which is practically impossible. It was too much and I could not hold this process back any longer. I pushed and the head started coming out so they all said okay here we go we will just go ahead and deliver so about 2 minutes and 4 pushes later Cash Henry arrived at 10:14 pm. The shock doc showed up about five to seven minutes after delivery and he fixed me up. The ob on call for my doc showed up about 30 minutes after delivery. Thanks to all those nurses who delivered Cash Henry.

Picnics and Playgrounds

It was so beautiful Wednesday that some of us met to play and have a picnic at the playground. I think the moms had just as much fun as the kids. This outing definitely rejuvenated me and got us very excited about more outings to come this spring and summer.

My mom, brother, neice, and nephew came up from chattanooga to visit on sunday. The weather was great so we all got to play ball in the yard for a lot of the afternoon.

I never get these in the order I want them. Anyway this was Brooks in the snow last year.

After breakfast we went to Phillips toy mart to see the little easter bunny farm. They have it every year. We went a little earlier this year than last so the bunnies were still really cute and small. Brooks wanted to climb and play with them. Since he could not do that he did get one of the bunnies to come eat some grass.

Brooks does not really love the snow yet. Luckily he did not cry the way he did last year when we sat him down in it. He actually left his gloves on for about 10 minutes which is the longest period of time yet. He liked opening up his mouth and trying to catch the snowflakes. He was cold and hungry after about 10 minutes out in it so we left and went to Cracker Barrel which in my 36th week was perfect for me.

Brooks loves taking a bath. He does insist on having the water running the entire time, several cups, and animal squirt toys. It is great for me when I actually want to put on makeup and fix my hair before going somewhere.

Really I'm smiling!!!!!!!!!

Only 9 weeks left. HOPEFULLY!!!! I carried Brooks for 41 weeks and 1 day. I am hoping for 40 weeks with this nameless boy. Being pregnant the second time has been so different. Pro is that it has gone by faster which is nice and the biggest con is just not being as excited to be pregnant as I was the first time. I loved being pregnant and thought it was great the first time. I suppose the lack of excitement can be contributed to the lack of newness. I do feel so blessed that thus far both my pregnacies have gone well with no complications. We are praying for nine (or eight) more weeks of a healthy pregnancy resulting in a healthy baby boy!!!!!!

8 Things about Brooks

1. I love being read to. My favorite books are about Noah's Ark and any other animal book.
2. I would watch Elmo, Pooh, and Baby Einstein all day long if my momma would let me.
3. When someone ask me if I want anything I say, "CooCoos (cookies)"? The response is usually, "No, we can not eat cookies all of the time." So then I pause and think hmmmmm, "Icescream (ice-cream)"?
4. Bingo Bells, Fosty, and Reindeer should be listened to and sung year round. Not just during December.
5. Screaming is a lot of fun until I have to go sit in time out for it.
6. I like my hands to be very clean so since I just learned how to wash my hands I do it constantly.
7. I will talk to just about anyone and love being the center of attention. The more you laugh the more I perform.
8. We can probably get along as long as you do not tell me no, never rinse the shampoo out of my hair, never change my clothes, never ever make me wear gloves or a hat, definitely do not cut my hair, and please please do not interrupt me while I am watching TV.

Playgroup Christmas Party

We had so much fun at Rachel and Darren's house Sunday night. The food was delicous, the kids played basically the whole time without much help from us, and all of the parents got to visit. We drew names for Christmas gifts and Holt gave Brooks a tee ball and bat. Brooks wanted to get it out and play with it right then. I think it is going to be a new favorite around here.

Breakfast with Santa

At our church we had breakfast with Santa Saturday morning. It was crazy. There were around 650 people there. Our visit with santa was not a happy one. As soon as I sat him in Santa's lap he stopped breathing, his lips turned blue, and then the crying and tears came. This was exactly what we expected. Out side of that it was a fun morning of food and activities.

Seriously, the other morning he played with his food and boxes for almost an hour. He will put everything in a box and then go dump it in a drawer and then put it all back in a basket and so on and so on. The bottom of our steps has become a new favorite playing spot. Kids are pretty funny.

It's a boy!!!!! We are so excited about baby boy number two. We had the ultra sound done yesterday and my gut feeling was right. Us having another boy right now is good for lots of reasons. Number one being it is what God is so graciously blessing us with. Second and not nearly as significant is all the money I will not be spending on a whole new girl wardrobe. Third, is the fact that this boy will be born around the same time Brooks was born so as long as this is a good size boy we are set with clothes. Fourth, Brooks will have a brother that is only two years younger than he is. Fifth, I just love boys and now I will have three. Please keep our baby boys health and development in your prayers.

That's our cute little skunk. Ava just turned two and had a Halloween birthday party on Saturday. It was so much fun seeing all the kids dressed up. I think some of them were a little unsure when they saw each other. Brooks just stood on the sidewalk and watched everybody for about the first 10 minutes we were there. He finally ventured out to play. It was a great party. Happy Birthday Ava!!!!!!!!

Bonding with Uncle Wack (Zach).

Our trip to the beach was so much fun. I had never been to Florida in October before and it was really nice. There were very few people there and we had beautiful weather all week. It was nice to get a little bit more sun before I go stark white for the winter. Brooks still did not really like the pool, beach, or ocean. Maybe next year. He did at least smile a few times when he let the waves hit his feet as long as somebody else was close to reassure him he was okay. We did not take enough pictures but I will post a few of the pics we did take.

5. I need to watch funny things bc I am serious enough without watching sad or serious movies.

11. I get in and out of the shower from the front (I want the water to hit me the second I get in)

16. I am very grateful for all my girlfriends (motherhood would not be nearly as much fun without them)
17. I had a difficult introduction into motherhood (lots and lots of screaming, not much sleeping, and constarnt feeding for 7months).

19. My heart truly hurts for all women who want babies and have not been able to have one.

I was not having much luck with getting a pic this morning. He would smile, say cheese, and either run toward me or look somewhere else. Anyway, I did not want to leave him this morning bc when we walked in his class every kid in there was crying. He just kept looking at me whimpering a little like "Seriously, you are leaving me here?" The two teachers said he did fine which means he cried on and off the whole time like all the others.

This is Sarah's big brother Jon, sister-in-law Jamie, and the newest addition to the miller clan Esther. She was too cute and Brooks liked kissing her feet. We cooked out and went swimming at their house one night. It was so good to see Jon and his family. He lived in nashville for a while and use to come see us sometimes. I had not seen him since he had gotten married and had a baby. Life sure seems to be going by awful fast these days.

This is a blurry picture but it was the best one I took. He was pretty far away. So cool though. I am not sure if I had ever seen an anteater. We felt sorry for him bc a group of monkeys kept running him off.

He has never ever fallen asleep in his unbrella stroller. We had a big day at the Zoo and he was so good. Especially considering we did not leave until 3:30 which is 2 hrs past his nap time.

These bibs are the best!!!!! I was soooooo sick of scrubbing food out of clothes. Then I found these bibs. This is the third bib like this that I have purchased. I love that they have armholes bc that allows for great coverage and prevents them from taking it off. The brand is Mullins Square. I have enjoyed the past two weekends bc of the fun celebrations we had in honor of the cute baby Dawson Moonshower and the hopefully soon arrival of Grant Thompson. Gini and Carrie are both such good friends, great girls, and fabulously fit the role of moma/moma to be. Our kitchen is being renovated and is taking longer than expected. Luckily I have in-laws who are nice enough to let me have these celebrations on their awesome deck. Here are some picks from the showers. Ooops. INFANT ONLINE GAMES

Brooks always wants to get in my lap and press the keys on the keyboard as soon as I get on the computer. Finally, I thought about looking to see if their were infant on-line games. I use to let my students do on-line learning games after they had finished all of their center work and they loved it. Sure enough I did a search and found infant online games. He loved it. Most of the ones for infants only require them to push any key on the computer for something to pop up or play music. He sat here for about 10 or 15 minutes and then was ready to get down. It was much better than me just getting frustrated with him for wanting to bang on the keyboard and much more entertaining for both of us.

This is what happens when I make plans. He has never fallen asleep in his high chair. I knew he was so tired and had already tried to put him down for a nap. After he cried for 20 minutes I decided okay I will just get him up and go ahead and call Christine to see if she is going to the pool. So a group of girls and their tots were going and sure enough after packing our lunch, bag, and changing my clothes I came downstairs to this adorable picture. So sad that we missed the pool trip. I debated trying to put him in the car and going but that is always a big risk that I may end up with a tired and grouchy baby for the rest of the day.

Father's Day

We went to Chattanooga for Father's Day. So much fun. The sermon was so good. The preacher talked about fathers, of course , and the role they are called to fullfill as christians. It was very touching and several men came forward to ask for prayers. I think going forward is a pretty scary thing to do. Asking for prayers bc of a desire to be a better husband and or father is very admirable. Matthew is a great dada and I pray for him in that role.

Sunday was beautiful. The perfect day for a lake trip with the family. It was the first lake trip that Brooks did not cry. YAY!!! He loved sitting on the end of the boat watching his cousins Julie, Tim, and Tara jump off the boat. He came around after a little while and wanted to get in the water. This was huge for him. He even smiled some when he was in.

Recipes

Baked Apricot Casserole
1 (17 oz.) can apricot halves,drained
1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/2 c. buttered cracker crumbs (town house), or sleeve of Ritz
1/2 c. butter

In a greased casserole dish, arrange the apricot halves, cut side up. Sprinkle the bown sugar and then the cracker crumbs over the apricots. Dot the crumbs with buter. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until the casserole has thickened and is crusty on the top.

I have never made this but will soon bc I love it and have had it at several potlucks. So sweet and southern.

Marinade Green Beans

6 cans of whole green beans, drained
1 stick butter, melted
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. soy sauce

Heat and mix butter, brown sugar and soysauce until brown sugar is dissolved. Pour green beans in 9x13-inch dish. Pour brown sugar mixtrue over green beans. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator overnight. If desired before baking, sprinkle with bacon or bacon bits( I have never tried it with the bacon). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes uncovered.

This is for my exfriend Carrie even though she does not want to use butter and has fresh green beans. I do not know how to cook under those two conditions.

We went to the beach last week and had so much fun. Brooks did not necessarily have a lot of fun outside but he did love being with all his family. I had to post this picture bc we bought this little pool in hopes that he would play and play and then I could read and read and lay out. Well, it did not work out quiet as well as I had hoped. He did love playing with his diving sticks and bucket. It was so cute to watch him. He just kept dipping it in and out of the bucket. It looked like he was making butter. Uncle Zach decided he was going to put some other things in Brooks' bucket. Brooks was fine with a boat or shovel but every time he put these rings in he would snatch them up and throw them out. Kids are so funny. We have no idea why he has so much hostility toward these rings.

Great Test Results

So just wanted to let everyone know that I am feeling so much better and received good news back from my last cardio and chest MRI. After my previous CAT scan (about one month ago) they found a mass that was behind the wall of my heart. Needless to say nobody wants to hear the word mass come out of your doctors mouth. It was very small but all docs thought that I should have a MRI done just to make sure it was nothing that needed further investigation. It took a week to get in to have the MRI and another week to get a call back with the results. It was a very long two weeks. Friday Dr. Hall called me and gave me good results. The mass was just some residual thymus gland (this is something that normally goes away when you are a child but mine did not). The thickness of the lining around my heart measured normal which was great news. There was just a little fluid that most likely has not totally cleared up from the pericarditis (but it will clear up). Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday night was so much fun. We got together with some of our favorite people for a dinner party. Thanks Gini D. Moon for hosting even after you broke your foot last week! The babes did really well. I love this stage bc Brooks can stay up a little later with out having a total meltdown, he loves to play, and being around other children close to his age. Isn't that funny how they do not even necessarily play with one another but they seem so much more content to have other children around.

Pericarditis "If you think something is wrong with you then there probably is"

So for any of you who have been around me for any amount of time know that I have not felt well since November. Yeah, November. That's a really long time to feel bad. An abscessed toothed and sinus infection after sinus infection were the initial things that were bringing me down. By January I was still not feeling well and felt short of breath most days, especially after working out or even cleaning house. It was not my usual shortness of breath. I say "usual" because I have occasionally/seasonally used an inhaler since I was little for wheezing. I was using my inhaler constantly and it did not seem to be doing anything. Long story short I have had a lung profusion, CAT scan of my lungs, x-rays, blood work done 4 times, and finally the internist I went to, Dr. Nathan Hall, decided I should have an EKG done bc surely the pneumonia that was not showing up in my lungs anymore would not be making me short of breath everyday. So after two "minute clinic" visits, going to my GP like four times, one emergency room visit, then an internist, finally leading me to a cardiologist bc my EKG came back abnormal. The cardiologist visit I had anticipated for a week and a half was Friday. I went to the cardiologist where he told me my heart sounded fine but he wanted to check everything so to be sure my shortness of breath, chest tightness, night sweats, and weight loss had nothing to do with the heart. So one more EKG , a 3D echo, and blood work here we come. Turns out that it looks like I have Pericarditis. What? Exactly. Inflammation of the sack around the heart. Good news to know what is wrong, bad news that they are not yet sure of the severity, cause, or if there is any scarring that will not heal. This means I might never have the full capacity of breathing that I once did. Which is slightly upsetting since I like recently discovered my like of triathlons and have a long term relationship with running. God is good and I know he will take care of me. Maybe this all happened so that I would have to slow down and draw closer to my Lord. That and have more time to BLOG of course. My doctors are suppose to get together to consult with one another at the beginning of this week and decide what needs to happen next. So please pray for the doctors who have been so committed to finding out what is wrong and for full recovery. I know only those who truly care for me have made it this far into my post, so THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Today we went to Calvert's to have Brooks' 1 year portrait done. He was not so happy about it. Normally he does great, because he loves to show off, but today it took holding his baa (blanket) and some c....c....c (cheerios) to get some pictures without him whining. Most of the rest of the day was spent cooking, a little and I mean a little cleaning, and most important was our stroll down to the playground. Brooks had so much fun. He is getting so big. Big enough to slide down the slide all by himself. Tear, sniffle, sniffle. He loved it!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, so after being told I should start a blog by two of my closest (carrie, christine) I decided it was time. I was going to start one several months ago but everytime I would begin I would either end up reading friends blogs for 30 minutes (which is my max time allotted to self on the computer a day) or Brooks would wake up early from his nap. I am not sure where this wide world of blogging will find me but most of my post will likely be about adventures with my sweet Brooks. So on that note here are some pics from his first birthday party. He had so much fun playing, eating cake, and opening presents. All of our friends and family made the party such a hit. Well, I might have to up my computer time to 45 minutes a day. I already feel addicted. It is like journaling. Well sord-of. I mean I probably would not reveal quiet as many details here. Maybe. Matthew will hope not.
